Changhua International Education and English Teaching Resource Center (CIEETRC) holds two reading competitions every year. 

The Elementary School Reading Competition is held in October. Schools are given three pre-written reading articles in July of the previous school year. Small- and medium-sized schools can choose one article to rehearse with the students. Large schools must prepare all three articles. On the day of the competition, large schools draw the title of one article from a box and are given 30 minutes to prepare. Students are scored on pronunciation, fluency, volume, and stage presence.

The Junior High Reading Competition is held in May. There are three topics every year. Students have the option to a) prepare their own speech, or b) read an article about the topic. In both cases, students draw one of the three topics from a box on the day of the competition. They have 30 minutes to prepare their own speech or look over the pre-written article. Students can use a paper dictionary and no outside consultation is allowed. Students are graded on pronunciation, fluency, volume, and stage presence.
