Helping Students Transition to College

We know that you want your students to succeed. We do, too. A few things we've learned is that helping students cultivate perseverance, a willingness to ask for help, and a growth mindset around trying new things go a long way toward student success. In fact, these characteristics seem to matter more than anything they've been taught about writing. Wait, What?!? For the most part, the writing tasks students are asked to take on in college build on what they've learned in high school, but many of the college and university writing assignments ask students to think about writing in new ways, so the belief that students have in their ability to learn, to grow from their mistakes, and to ask for help when they need it is equally, if not more, important.
