You are invited to apply for a Spring 2025 Learning Design Project award. Selected participants will receive a $700 stipend upon project completion and work with a TLi mentor to implement a small, high-impact change in their course.
This is not a course redesign—just a focused improvement to better engage students using digital learning strategies. Projects are funded by a quality assurance grant from the Chancellor’s Office Online Course Services (OCS) division.
Open to all CSUCI faculty (lecturers, tenure-track, and tenured)
Projects must be hosted in Canvas and can support in-person, online, or blended courses
Matched mentorship– Each faculty participant will be paired with a TLi mentor for guidance
Flexible implementation– Projects must be completed in Spring 2025 but can be used with students in any semester
Meets QLT standards – Each project must align with two criteria from the Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) Rubric
Choose from one of four TLi-supported project categories, each tailored to different teaching interests and course needs:

How QLT connects to Learning Design Projects:
The Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) Rubric is a CSU-developed framework designed to support effective course design and teaching. It’s based on research and best practices, giving faculty like you a practical guide to enhancing student learning.
To qualify for the $700 stipend, projects must align with two criteria from the QLT Rubric. You will choose these when you submit your proposal. You don’t need to be an expert— you can work with a QLT-trained bot or email georgia.vantyne@csuci.edu with questions.
How QuARRy connects to Learning Design Projects:
The Quality Assurance Resource Repository (QuARRy) is a CSU-wide collection of exemplary online and hybrid teaching practices. Faculty from across the system share their innovative work, helping others improve their courses. Explore QuARRy here.
At the end of your project, you’ll submit your work to QuARRy, where it will be featured as an exemplar for other faculty. As a bonus, you’ll earn a digital badge recognizing your contribution!

Proposal Submissions due by Sunday, March 9 (Week 7)
Learning Design Projects provide an opportunity to enhance student engagement through digital learning strategies. Your proposal should focus on one pre-selected project option and a small but meaningful way to integrate it into a course.
How you define "engagement" is up to you—it could mean improving interaction with course content, fostering student collaboration, or creating a more inclusive learning environment. Your project should be new and designed for one of your current, Summer, or Fall 2025 courses.
As part of your proposal, you’ll identify a student outcome you want to support. This could be:
A formal Student Learning Outcome (SLO)
A key course concept
A way to foster critical thinking
A strategy to create a more inclusive course climate
We want to understand how your project will support student success—whether through academic achievement or improving the student experience.
Earned Upon Completion:
$700.00 stipend
A QuARRy Digital Badge issued by the Chancellor's Office Online Course Services
Estimated time to complete:
10-20 hours
Deliverables:
Project Plan (template provided) - Friday April 4th (Week 10)
Completed Project in Canvas - Friday April 25th (Week 13)
Submission to QuARRy - Fri May 9th (Week 15)
Required Meetings with a TLi Partner:
Pre-Project Consultation (discuss detailed plan template before you get started on building your project)

To qualify for funding, all projects must demonstrate two QLT criteria.
