Dear Buckeye Valley Families:
As a result of the global pandemic, Buckeye Valley Schools created an all-online educational option for students in grades K-12 for the 2020-21 school year. Parents/guardians were asked to make a semester-long commitment to the online option. The end of the first semester will be here soon and the District would like to provide an opportunity for parents to change their child’s educational model for the second semester. The selection will be for the full second semester.
Important Dates to Know:
Monday, November 9-Friday, November 20- the window of opportunity for families to change instructional models for their child(ren) is open
Monday, January 4-Friday, May 28, 2021- the decision you make will be for the duration of the second semester
Families will have two full weeks to determine their preference for their child’s second semester instructional model.
A few options:
Families who want their students to remain in their current instructional option-- do not need to do anything about their decision for the second semester.
Families who wish to withdraw from the Buckeye Valley Dedicated Online Option (BVDOO) and enroll in “Barons Are Back” in-person learning model--complete a Parent Change Request form. This form becomes accessible on Monday, November 9.
Families with students presently in “Barons Are Back” in-person model who wish to switch to the BVDOO--complete a Parent Change Request form indicating your preference. This form becomes accessible on Monday, November 9.
More about BVDOO: Instruction through the BVDOO is all online, with academic support provided by district teachers virtually through weekly office hours, small groups, and one-on-one assistance as needed. Though delivery of instruction is primarily remote and provided through digital/recorded presentations viewed by the students, opportunities are provided weekly for virtual live lessons and interactions with BV teachers and classmates. This allows students to have flexibility in completing their weekly assignments and logging their five sign-ons to our online platform, BUZZ, each week. In addition, all families will have the opportunity to monitor their student work. To learn more about BVDOO, see the informational website, and read testimonials from parents and students, please click here.
As a reminder, students who are not enrolled in the BVDOO option will participate in the established instructional model and be in-person, hybrid, or fully remote based on COVID-19 conditions in our area. The decision is made by the BV Board of Education and Superintendent Andrew Miller. Regional and local health data points are influencing indicators for determining the instructional model (all in-person, hybrid, all remote) and remains subject to change based upon improving or worsening health conditions in the central Ohio region, Delaware County, and Buckeye Valley community.
What is next? Parents will be notified about their second semester request by Friday, December 18, 2020. Following that notification, class registration information for the upcoming semester will be provided for middle and high school students transferring. We anticipate that students changing instructional models will receive their second semester schedules following the conclusion of winter break. The first day back for students in the second semester is Monday, January 4. Please note that middle and high school students who are currently in “Barons Are Back” and plan to remain in this option, will not be able to change the second semester schedule previously assigned to them.
For additional questions, please contact the BVDOO administrator, Mr. Steven Holliday, at sholliday@mybvls.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kimberly Halley
