As an introductory project to the class, the students began by creating a physical drawing of their choosing. Afterwards, they were given the task of trying to replicate their drawing on a digital platform. Freeform was the chosen platform because it is an app developed by Apple for the purpose of being an artistic space for digital artists.
Somes students were already talented and experienced in creating digital drawings, but many had not attempted a digital drawing prior to the class. Therefore, students were allowed to trace over designs of their choosing, so they can feel proud of creating a drawing on a platform they did not have much experience in. This sense of accomplishment is the first step for students to purse hobbies, goals, and develop the mindset of being capable of doing great things as long as they put their mind to it.
However, some students embraced their unfamiliarity with creating a digital drawing. These students created an original drawing that had character, that showed the class they were not only confident, but willing to take that risk in entering a digital world and attempt to make the best drawing.Â
