A. PEARL
Hello! My name is Maggie Dillman. I am 19 years old and currently a Freshman in College. I have always loved English because of all the interesting books we got to read throughout the years. I even helped create a book club with my friends in Junior year at Westinghouse Arts Academy. Then I transferred to Derry Area High School where I first started writing poems and it just really stuck with me. Now anytime I think of new lines for my next poem I immediately want to write them down. I find it so comforting to express my emotions and believe it has helped me become more confident in my writing abilities. I also enjoy finding new ways to present Nature on paper, such as taking old photos from my camera roll and giving them a purpose because it holds memories and makes the meaning of the text so much more special. The poems shown here were actually written in a poetry class I took for extra credit but turned out to be something beautiful.
I’m so grateful to have been given this opportunity to show off my hard work and will continue to write for the rest of my life in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. Hope you all enjoy reading my poems as much as I enjoyed writing them! Thank you again for all the support. I truly appreciate it!
With love, A. Pearl

ODE TO NEW YORK by A. Pearl
I roam the busy streets of the city
Only to find big yellow taxi cars,
Lots of black birds, and many tall buildings.
Juicy and fresh with those round, tart edges.
That sweet taste remains in my mouth for years.
My body feels warm and happy inside.
People tend to leave but I will stay here
New York is my home. I can’t just run away!
It may look rusty but it holds moments…
Memories that we won’t ever forget.
LIFE IS A BATTLEFIELD by A. Pearl
Life is a battlefield.
Struggle does he
Knowing not of courage.
Is it easy to overcome?
All the fear?
Never.
Fight death until we die.
Is it worth it all?
*Afterwards*
All it is worth it
we die until death.
Fight never fear.
Overcome too easy. +
It is the courage of
not knowing.
He does struggle.
Battlefield is life.
BEACH VIBES by A. Pearl
I love the smell of sea water
The salty taste is fresh
Sand in my toes but I don’t care
Hair blows free in the wind
You can sit down with a good book
Or enjoy calm music
All stress seems to leave my body
Peace has come back again
I can feel my mind start to drift
Like a car gone off track
The sun greets me with a warm smile
I can feel my skin tan
Waves tickle my feet as I jump
In to swim with delight
On shore, crabs search empty seashells
In hopes of finding food
Piercing seagull cries fill the sky
They are free to explore
Lots of river clams contain pearls
You just have to look deep
Clouds slowly cover passing ships
My eyes shut, time to sleep
The beach helps clear your mind and soul
So have fun and relax!

THE SAILOR AND I by A. Pearl
I watch the romance unfold.
Grayish clouds fill the dark sky.
This night will never grow cold.
Secured by the anchor-hold.
That salty dog is my guy.
I watch the romance unfold.
He brought me pure marigolds.
They bloom on fourth of July.
This night will never grow cold.
Smile so very big and bold.
I can’t help but wonder why.
I watch the romance unfold.
Just realized, he has me fooled.
I will no longer comply.
This night will never grow cold.
I grab my only blindfold.
And cry as he says goodbye,
I watch the romance unfold.
This night will never grow cold.
"BIG" DISCOVERY by A. Pearl
I could feel the floor shaking once again.
Behind the bushes I hid with big fear,
Waiting for the creature to fill my brain.
My head slowly rises to see no bear
But the shocking sight of his giant foot.
He bends down to greet me but I panic.
Thoughts fill my head as it begins to pleut.
He grabs my hand and it feels romantic,
My friends look to have been struck by moonbeam.
This discovery meant a lot to me
But they seemed not to care about my life,
Eating as if it were just a weird dream.
The cafeteria goes dead silent.
He watches me without being violent.
