Application of Course Concepts
Attitudes: Our team has done a good job of being willing and being a team player. The textbook states "People want to know how those they meet and associate with think and feel. We are constantly sharing our opinions, asking what others think, and trying to persuade others of our own points of view." As a team, we want to do a better job of all of us sharing ideas and opinions while on our team call.
Motivation: Motivation was the topic we learned this week and it focused on how people have motivation when they are able to choose to do what they enjoy and they have their own creative ability. Motivation comes with three aspects which are autonomy, mastery and purpose. These three together give someone the ability to control their work, while improving, learning and practicing to achieve a goal. I think we are doing very well with motivation because so far the assignments we have done give us a lot of autonomy to choose how we complete them and what we can do.
Diversity: One of the topics within the diversity chapter In the book Is unconscious bias. The textbook says, "we form biases based on our experiences with social situations, cultures, stereotypes, attitudes, media exposure, and emotions". We often do this without being aware of It. I think this Is one of the things are team has done a good job staying away from. It can be easy to create biases towards people we have never met, especially when It Involves a group where people don't think or do things exactly the same way or take longer to preform different tasks then others. We have communicated well and have not created any unwanted, or negative thoughts or biases towards each other. The one thing we want to Improve as a team Is getting more participation from the group as a whole and that Is easier to do when we do not create unconscious biases.
Emotions and Mood: We have been doing well as a team by showing our true emotions and having a positive mood. We feel like if one person needed to express a concern that they would feel comfortable to open up and share to the group so that there is no emotional dissonance. The culture of our group is one of positive emotion and no fake or suppressed emotions.
Personality: Through an online course personable interaction can be challenging. But core principles are still present and our team works really well in established what we learned about how personalities can affect an organization. Our team is diverse with different personalities. We can definitely work on opening up to know more about our personalities. But so far in the past two months, we pulled our differences and have been able to produce fine work.
