Dear Tenure Review Committee:
This year has been incredibly productive and rewarding, marked by significant achievements and contributions to the Skyline College community. I hope that you will appreciate the steps I have taken to overcome some of the challenges I've encountered and to enhance the digital services at Skyline College to meet and exceed the expectations of our students.
In an effort to better support future Skyline community needs, I attended the ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) State Meeting in Valencia, CA. This experience provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the program, which is essential for promoting cost-effective educational resources. I also attended the National Equity Project training and achieved certification as a coach. This training has equipped me with valuable skills to foster equity and inclusion within our community. In addition to these accomplishments, I also became certified as a Primo VE Administrator and Alma Administrator, further enhancing my technical skills and ability to manage our library systems effectively.
During the absence of the Director of Learning Commons, I stepped up to ensure more seamless operations. My responsibilities included collaborating with vendors on renewing contracts, negotiating pricing on new purchases and BookEye scanner maintenance contract renewals with the support of library support staff, attending District ITS monthly meetings, and representing Skyline Library in SMCCD Library Workgroup meetings and District Alma Administrator meetings. Additionally, I supported the scheduling of adjunct faculty for summer and fall, interviewed and hired additional adjunct support for summer hours, worked with administrative staff to provide adjuncts with summer and fall contracts, facilitated staff meetings, and represented Skyline College at the Council of California Community Colleges Chief Librarian Annual Meeting. Furthermore, as a member of the Community Librarian Search Committee, I played an active role in the selection process of new library staff, ensuring we attract and retain top talent.
Together with two other full-time librarians, we are in the process of reviewing the Comprehensive Program Review. This collaborative effort aimed to evaluate and improve our library services and programs. In January, with the collaborative efforts of our dedicated staff, I led a team to refresh the library website. This initiative aimed to enhance user experience and accessibility, ensuring our resources are easily navigable for students and faculty.
I also had the opportunity to teach an AI workshop called Beyond Cheating, and co-teach workshops on Visual Communication to educate and empower our community with the latest advancements and ethical considerations of AI generated and manipulated images. As an invited panelist at Community Driven: Film and Panelist Discussion event hosted by the Skyline College Counseling Department, I promoted careers in library science and information management and provided general career advice for students.
Overall, this year has been marked by substantial growth and meaningful contributions to the Skyline College community. I am committed to continuing this momentum into the next year, driving innovation and excellence in our library services.
Sincerely,
Vincent Kang
