You'll also find learning outcomes in each of the chapters in this course. These outline what you'll learn in each chapter, and you can think of these unit-level learning outcomes as baby steps toward our big-picture, course-level learning outcomes outlined above.
You can find these on the schedule to this syllabus or in the Modules within our Canvas
Please note that you will be required to take the Chapter Quiz before you can advance to the next module.
I expect you to read the assigned readings before class each day, work with interactive figures, and answer the questions in the text.
● Administrative Discussions (2%). This will be required to open the course.
● Attendance, Class Participation, and Discussions (10%). Class participation involves talking or writing in collaboration tools like Canvas or Slack. All interactions will be civil, respectful, and supportive of an inclusive learning environment.
● Exams (30%). You will be tested every six weeks, with a cumulative final exam. The exams will consist of multiple-choice, short-answer, and T/F questions (modeled after the weekly quizzes). Additionally, there might be an article for you to dissect.
● Homework and Classroom Team Activities (32%). There will be homework assignments for each unit. There will also be classroom activities where we will work in teams.
● Quizzes (16%). The multiple-choice quizzes by chapter will be posted to Canvas and cover that week's chapters. The quizzes will be closed and due at 11:59 PM (PST) of the due date. Canvas automatically grades these quizzes, and they will help prepare you for the exams. Two of the quiz grades will be dropped.
● Reports and ChatGPT (10%). There will be movies to watch with written reflections. We will also use ChatGPT
● Extra Credit (1%). There will be plenty of extra credit opportunities. With good work, they could improve your results by up to one letter grade.
