Introduction
The 5 B's of Precolonial Philippines, (Barangay, Bayanihan, Bathala, Baybayin, & Babaylan) represent the core aspects of Filipino culture and society. Before the arrival of foreign colonizers, the Philippines was a thriving archipelago with a rich cultural heritage. At the heart of Pre-colonial Philippine society were three core aspects that defined the daily lives of our ancestors: Bathala, Baybayin, and Bayanihan. Bathala, the supreme god, represented the spiritual connection to the divine and the natural world. Baybayin, the ancient writing system, symbolized knowledge, communication, and artistic expression. Bayanihan, the spirit of communal unity and cooperation, embodied the values of solidarity, reciprocity, and collective action. These three core aspects intertwined to form the fabric of Pre-colonial Philippine culture, shaping the beliefs, practices, and relationships of our ancestors. In this online portfolio, we will delve into the significance and legacy of Bathala, Baybayin, and Bayanihan, exploring their impact on our cultural identity as Filipino American and their continued relevance in our lives today.
