Support information for working remotely on placement

Background

During this challenging time it is vital that we continue to train future health professionals, however we are aware that the situation for individuals and services is changing daily. In light of this we have developed this resource which may help placement educators and students to consider remote tasks which would support the student to demonstrate placement competencies if they are not able to be in the placement setting for part of their placement experience.

You can navigate through the sections using the tabs at the top of this page.

LONG ARM SUPERVISORS

Long arm supervision is a different way of supervising a student, who isn't based with you. It is a great role for people who have limited clinical contact or are retired.

The long arm supervision model is very flexible, with supervision offered face to face or remotely, and in a range of settings, in a way which is negotiated between the student and the supervisor. Rather than being an 'expert' in the clinical area, the supervisor's role is to facilitate the students understanding and application of the OT process. It is a much more shared approach to learning, although it does require both parties to be very clear about expectations and communication.

ONSITE SUPERVISORS

During this period, there may be times when your student is not able to work in the clinical setting. At these times it will be appropriate for you to set your students some work which enables them to demonstrate their placement competencies.

You will find, on this google site, a range of suggested activities which might meet these needs, remember that these are just suggestions and you can develop your own ideas.

STUDENT information

If you are on a remote placement (whether that is traditional or extended scope), it is important that you are able to continue to develop your skills and competencies in relation to the placement assessment documentation.

You will find a range of learning activities on this site, as well as a page of general guidance on working remotely.

Click on the heading above for more information. Please note this link will only work if you are level 5 students who are currently logged into BB.

You need to evidence all of the learning that you do away from the placement setting. This section will help you think about what platforms you can use to share the work you complete.
