There are 5 (6 week) placements in total.
Apprentices will cover
An acute setting eg Orthopaedics
A community Setting eg Care of the elderly
An outpatient setting eg MSK outpatients
Specialist area eg Burns & Plastics
The Apprentice needs to attend and complete all placements, abiding by the placement provider regulations and policies. On the Apprenticeship program, the apprentice will negotiate one day a week away from placement to continue university study.
The University & Employer will work closely together and be responsible for arranging all appropriate placement opportunities for the Apprentice.
The University will also communicate and offer support to the apprentice and placement provider throughout the placement.

Physiotherapy Assessment Clinical Reasoning and Decision Making 66-407184
TASK 1 Clinical Placement Block 1 (60% weighting)
Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate effective communication skills through application of assessment, clinical reasoning and decision making within your scope of practice
Demonstrate core health care values and adherence to placement policies and procedures
TASK 2 20min Presentation and VIVA back at Sheffield Hallam University (40% weighting)
Learning Outcomes - NB although these aren't assessed on placement the Apprentice may still build objectives around them
Identify and explain the process of a Physiotherapy assessment and the factors which contribute to this.
Justify problem identification, goal setting and treatment planning through the use of a recognised clinical reasoning model.
Special requirements for Block 1
Students will create their placement objectives around the Degree Apprenticeship Physiotherapy Standards.
All completed objectives will be recorded in the portfolio
NB Students will negotiate one day off per week in order to complete coursework or prepare for exams.

Learning Outcomes:
Take responsibility for safety and wellbeing of self, staff and service users employing a patient centred approach
Apply effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills to develop and sustain the therapeutic relationship and contribute effectively to Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) working.
Apply clinical reasoning through the process of service user assessment, problem identification and treatment planning and deliver safe and effective physiotherapy intervention with a range of service users.
Reflect on feedback and learning experiences to demonstrate own continuous professional development.
Special requirements for Block 2 and 3
Students will create their placement objectives around the Degree Apprenticeship Physiotherapy Standards.
All completed objectives will be recorded in the portfolio
Student may want to think about relevant research questions based on their placement to use in the Level 5 module Evidence & Enquiry for Practice (EEP).
You are required to get a case study to use for the Physiotherapy Management Module

Learning Outcomes:
Apply a proactive approach in establishing and maintaining safe practice environments and prioritising and managing own caseload
Apply effective verbal, non -verbal and written skills in communicating information, advice and professional judgement to service users, carers and the wider MDT
Apply clinical reasoning through the process of service user assessment, prioritisation of problems, and development and adaptation of service user centred management plans, and evaluate the effectiveness of own intervention.
Practice autonomously applying critical reflection and integrate feedback to demonstrate own CPD.
