NMM is a support group for global ethnic majority ( GEM) student nurses and midwives at Sheffield Hallam University. The group is also accessible to SHU staff within the Nursing and Midwifery department from academic staff to Student Support Adviser's and all student nurses and midwives regardless of ethnic background.
If you wish to support GEM students or want to learn more about the issues they face etc. please feel free to join the group. You can be added to the distribution list by emailing Naheeda Rehman - N.rehman@shu.ac.uk.
Allied Health Professions Minoritised (AHPM) started in 2019, following in the footsteps of the great work of Ifrah Salih’s Nursing and Midwifery Minoritised Group (NMM). Ifrah and her nursing colleagues have kindly welcomed AHPM to hold joint monthly meetings.
These meetings are an opportunity to disseminate relevant information but also allow AHP students and staff to discuss and raise issues that affect people of colour at Sheffield Hallam in a safe space. AHPM have joined up with the other departments in Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences to form HWLS Minoritised, organising events such as the Leveraging Community to Build and Inclusive Environment webinar as part of the Creating Knowledge Conference in June 2020 and the Reading group that started at the end of 2020.
We hope to continue to advocate and build our AHP BAME community and have the conversations about race today so that our children’s children will not need to.
