Facing the Beast 

Determined to fix the mess, Benny dreams of Babe Ruth, who encourages him to take a chance. The next day, Benny leaps the fence and comes face-to-face with the Beast. A chaotic chase through the neighborhood ensues, ending with Benny saving the dog from under a collapsing fence. The boys learn the Beast’s real name—Hercules—and discover he’s actually a friendly old dog. The ball is returned, albeit chewed, and the boys befriend the owner, Mr. Mertle, who gives Smalls a new ball signed by the 1927 Yankees.
