Page 3: Trouble with the Babe Ruth Ball
One fateful day, Smalls hits a home run over the fence. Elated at first, the mood quickly shifts when he reveals that the ball belonged to his stepfather and was signed by none other than Babe Ruth himself. The boys are horrified—Smalls had no idea of the ball’s value. Realizing the gravity of the situation, they brainstorm increasingly elaborate schemes to retrieve it from the Beast's lair.
Their first attempts are comic failures: remote-control contraptions, pulley systems, and even diving gear all end in disaster. Eventually, Benny decides enough is enough. He dreams of Babe Ruth encouraging him to be a legend—so he hops the fence.
