This term pupils in P2/3, P3, P5/6, P6, P7M and P7R improved their digital skills, creativity and confidence from using six new iPads with the Stop Motion Studio and DoInk Green Screen iOS apps. Alison McCook from Learn Tech kindly supported the development of our digital skills.
Each pupil received individual and small group support to introduce the new iOS apps, which were selected to promote creativity, digital skills and curriculum engagement. Learners were also given the opportunity to explore and experiment with digital technologies.
Linked to the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Technologies Experiences & Outcomes pupils developed the ability to:
Open and save files from designated locations.
Communicate and collaborate using digital technology, such as iPads.
Collect, combine, and share text, audio, video and images using digital tools.
Integration with Expressive Arts Experiences and Outcomes from the CfE allowed pupils to create and present work using visual elements and concepts, including following structured processes to respond to design briefs. For example, pupils used the Stop Motion Studio app in small groups acting as a production studio to create a snowman animation, and individually utilised the DoInk Green Screen app to design digital Christmas cards, fostering creativity, design and teamwork.
Festive Animations
Using the Stop Motion app, pupils worked in groups to create a short animation on how to build a snowman, or something similar. Each group allocated different roles, such as Director, Camera Person, Prop Person, etc. They made a background and took a series of photos with the iPad, using stop motion (small movements) to bring their creation to life. Learners could use paper, playdough or drawing.
Digital Christmas Cards
The digital Christmas cards have been saved in each pupil's individual google site for viewing. The process was simple and exciting: each learner stood in front of a green screen for a photo, they then decorated an A4 piece of paper as a Christmas background. The app then merged the photo with their artwork, creating an electronic Christmas card. Some pupils selected a digital background that had already been created.
We all enjoyed some festive fun while enhancing our digital skills.
