ADVANCED HIGHER

The Advanced Higher class is a popular course amongst our sixth year students. It is suitable for students who are likely to achieve a strong higher pass. It is suitable for candidates who wish to develop their critical and creative language skills through the reading, writing and discussion of complex and sophisticated texts. They should be able to work with growing independence, and use their own initiative under minimal supervision.

Students are given the freedom to choose their own text to study for the Dissertation Folio and creative writing genre and subject.

Students will study Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ and ‘The Winter’s Tale’ with the additional option of Margaret Atwood’s ‘Oryx and Crake’ as well as Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’.

This course will also include a research trip to Aberdeen University, in order to collect research materials for the dissertation.
