Unit 1 Chemical changes and structure
Unit 2 Nature’s chemistry
Unit 3 Chemistry in society
After each unit you have to pass an End of Unit Assessment which assesses both knowledge and understanding (outcome 2.1) and problem solving (outcome 2.2).
Throughout the National 5 course you will be required to pass the following outcomes before sitting the final exam:
Outcome 1 – practical experiment report
Outcome 2.1 – Knowledge and understanding for all 3 units
Outcome 2.2 – problem solving over the 3 units (includes predicting, selecting, analysing and processing)
The Added Value Unit at National 5 is called the assignment. This is a research project which is sent away to the SQA to be marked and is marked out of 20 and is a fifth of the overall grade.
