Artefact #1
Plagiarism Game
Caption: Image above showing a screenshot from the plagiarism game played.
Why I Choose To Include This Artefact?
The picture above is a plagiarism game. This game consisted of gremlin who took over a high school and the only way to get them out was by finding them in different room in the school. The gremlin hid in corners, under desks and in light bulbs to list a few. I learnt the exact definition of plagiarism, different ways in how plagiarism is classified via scenarios, the consequences of plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarizing information. This game made it fun to learn plagiarism.

Module 5 (Activity 1)
Review the COSTAATT’s Academic Integrity Policy (Appendix 5A) and following scenario:
Scenario: Chris, Todd, and Mike are assigned to work on several group assignments together in a history class this semester. One of their projects includes each of them researching different events on a given time line, and then combining the information together. On a test that covers some of the information gathered by Todd, Mike cannot remember the answers to the questions. He reasons that because the three of them had collaborated on the project and got a good grade, it shouldn't be a problem to ask Todd for the answers. Since they sit not far from each other in class, Mike asks Todd to tell him the answers. Todd does not wish to offend his friend, so he moves his arm allowing Mike to see his paper. Chris also sits nearby and sees this.
How would you respond to the following questions?
1. What do you understand to be unacceptable academic behaviour while enrolled as a student at COSTAATT?
Unaccepted academic behaviour while enrolled as a student at COSTAATT is violation of the academic integrity policy.
2. How would you classify Chris, Todd and Mike’s behaviour in the context of the Academic Integrity Policy?
Chris, Todd and Mike’s behaviour in context of the Academic Integrity Policy can be classified as cheating and facilitating the violation of academic integrity.
3. Describe the disciplinary measures outlined in the policy to treat with students found to be in violation of the academic integrity policy.
The disciplinary measures outlined in the policy treat students who are found to be in violation of the academic integrity policy in various ways, however in this particular scenario, the students violation falls under level 3 (3.5.3). Level 3 (3.5.3) is copying on course work or final examinations.
As such there are sanctions for level 3 offences based on the severity which are:
3.6.1 – A “F” grade for the course
3.6.2 Suspension from the institution and its academic programmes for one or more semesters.
4.Who would you consider to be in greater violation of the Academic Integrity Policy? Mike or Todd?
Although Todd is facilitating the violation of academic integrity and Mike is actually committing the offence, both Mike and Todd are in great violation of the Academic Integrity policy and would be facing the same penalty.
5. What should be the Chris’s response to what he saw?
The response Chris should have to what he saw should be to discourage his group members from plagiarising or reporting the act of plagiarism to the lecturer during office hours.
Why was this artefact chosen?
This artifact was included in my portfolio to demonstrate how my awareness of plagiarism has grown. With this newfound awareness about plagiarism, I will be able to apply it throughout the rest of my associates degree program. This artifact can also be used to emphasize Costaatt's academic integrity policy's message.
