Conclusion
The FYEC 100 course prepares me in entirely for my journey ahead as I set out to complete my associate degree in medical laboratory technology at Costaatt. This course provided me with valuable information on how to access various departments' information (email and phone numbers) and receive timely feedback, how to work effectively in collaborative learning and various conflict management styles, and the importance of citizens becoming socially responsible, to name a few. Also, this course taught me how to effectively communicate with my advisor and the depth of the advisor-student relationship. Nevertheless, there was also information on how I could get assistance with my academic goals, both long and short term, as well as how I could graduate with honors. I gained life-long concepts and tools on plagiarism, not only just for college life but also for work life (presentations). I discovered that there are student organizations, student ambassadorship, sports teams, and even career opportunities available while attending college and after graduation. Last but not least, I have the opportunity to use tutorial services where I can spend an hour engaging in methods to improve my learning. A topic that I encountered in FYEC 100 that felt most valuable to me is the importance of becoming socially responsible. In all honesty, I personally feel like I accomplished the world when I do the smallest act of kindness. From this topic, I learn that by engaging in empathy for others and understanding that my actions can in fact affect them and in turn can develop my emotional intelligence. Long term, my self esteem will be built up while allowing me to feel satisfaction in knowing that I am helping others. One challenge that I faced in pursuing the FYEC 100 course is submission of my group activities in a timely manner. I was able to overcome this challenge by starting the activities as soon as it was explained by our lecturer and setting a deadline to complete it before it’s actual due date.
