D2L provides you with 2 submission logs. The first we will discuss is the Quiz Attempt log and the second is the Dropbox Submission log. Both of these logs will give you the time(s) that students entered a Quiz/Dropbox and completed it, amongst other information. The steps for accessing the logs for both are very similar, so we will go through how to do it with quizzes. You should also try following/adapting the steps to access the Dropbox Submission logs. What are the differences? Similarities?
Go to the Quizzes tab in the D2L Course Navbar
Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Quiz you want to see the attempt logs of
In the menu that appears, click on Attempt Logs
Okay, so we have when students entered and submitted an exam. But what if a student was not able to complete a quiz due to some fluke in technology? How do we reset their attempt so they can complete their quiz? Perhaps they did submit their quiz but, for some reason, did not do it properly or D2L did not save some answers (rare, but not impossible, especially on older browsers or slow internet speeds)? Or maybe there was an attempt we deleted and we now need to get that attempt back?
Go to the Quizzes tab in the D2L Course Navbar
Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Quiz you want to delete an attempt of
In the menu that appears, click on Grades
Find the student that you want to delete the attempt of
Click on the checkbox to the left of their name to select all attempts by that student or click the checkbox to the left of individual attempts to delete just those attempts.
At the top, click on the Trashcan Icon to delete the selected attempt(s)
Go to the Quizzes tab in the D2L Course Navbar
Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Quiz that you want to delete/restore an attempt from
In the menu that appears, click on Grade.
To delete an attempt, you can find the attempt usually in the User's tab. However, in some cases, your student may be hidden. This is because, by default, D2L restricts the visible attempts by those users who have completed an attempt. So, read on to find missing attempts.
To find these missing attempts, you will want to use the Attempts tab.
When you get to this tab, you will see all of the attempts for the quiz in the order that they were completed. However, we run into the same issue: These are completed quiz attempts. To find the attempt that was not completed, click on Show Search Options.
From there, click on the dropdown menu under Restrict To and choose User Attempts in Progress.
Click on the Magnifier glass in the search bar to have D2L update the search parameters.
You should now be able to find the missing attempt.
Follow the steps to access the Attempt Logs
From there, find the attempt that you want to restore. It typically will have the student's name with Deleted Attempt in parenthesis.
Click on the Restore button.
Go back to the Quiz Grading screen and ensure that the quiz attempt has been properly restored.
