Drugs Policy
This policy applies to all MWAV employees, including management.
At MWAV we want to provide a workplace which is safe, and where all employees and clientele are treated with fairness and respect.
Being under the influence of drugs can impede an employee's ability to work in a safe manner. It can diminish the ability to work efficiently, and treat others appropriately while at work.
This policy aims to minimise or prevent risk of injury or harm to the health and safety of MWAV employees, customers and the general public from the use of drugs.
It describes the responsibilities of MWAV management and employees, and the outcomes for employees under the policy.
It's important to note that 'under the influence of drugs' can refer to illegal drugs, or prescription drugs with known side-effects.
MWAV management responsibilities
The management team will take reports of inappropriate behaviour and suspected unfitness for work seriously, and deal with them in a full and fair manner. The management team will ensure that they speak with individuals exhibiting unusual or dangerous behaviour to identify the source of the problem and determine a resolution.
Employee responsibilities
Illegal or recreational drugs: Employees who believe they may be under the influence of drugs must report this to their supervisor before beginning their assigned day of work, for the safety of workmates, customers and the general public.
Prescription medication: Employees taking prescription medication which could affect their ability to work safely (including driving) will be advised of these side-effects by the prescribing doctor. This information must be discussed with a manager or supervisor as it has direct bearing on the safety of the employee concerned and others.
Outcomes
Employees found to have been working for MWAV under the influence of illegal drugs will face disciplinary consequences up to and including termination of employment.
Employees who proactively approach a supervisor or manager about their belief they may be affected by drugs will be offered assistance, such as referral to a counselling service.
