Accident And Breakdown Procedures
Responding to minor vehicle incidents (property damage, no injuries to employees or third parties)
Exchange details with any other parties involved, but do not admit responsibility for the incident.
Use the mobile phone camera to take images of damage to vehicles or properties resulting from a collision
Alert office staff to the incident as soon as is practically possible and follow managerial instructions
Use the MWAV phone to complete a damage report with the details of the incident, including:
1. Images of any damage
2. A description of how the incident occurred
3. Vehicle registration number and description of other parties involved
4. Contact details and licence number of other drivers involved
Responding to major vehicle incidents (physical injury to employees or third parties and/or extensive property damage)
The procedures from ‘Responding to minor vehicle incidents’ apply, as well as the following:
Assess injuries of impacted parties and immediately contact emergency services by calling 000, if deemed necessary.
Alert office staff to the incident as soon as is practically possible. Speak to first aid officer for advice on applying basic first aid if required
Cooperate fully with any authorities present
Responding to vehicle breakdown
Park the vehicle in a legal parking space, or move it to a safe position, as soon as it is safe to do so
Use the MWAV-provided mobile phone to call office staff for advice on the issue
Management will speak to the fleet manager and the vehicle service provider to gain more information if it is not a known issue
When a manager can make an informed decision as to whether the vehicle is safe to continue driving, they will inform the driver of the outcome
If it not deemed safe to continue, other transport will be arranged by MWAV to return the employee/s to the depot
MWAV will arrange for the vehicle to be towed to the servicing mechanic if deemed necessary
Emergency response equipment
Each MWAV vehicle has a first aid kit in its inventory.
Each MWAV vehicle has a fire extinguisher in its inventory, which may be used in situations where fire poses a risk (e.g. after an accident, breakdown). In such circumstances, if the employee deems the situation to be unsafe, they should move to a safe distance and contact emergency services, rather than attempt to suppress a fire themselves.
