MVYPS Professional Development Day

Theme: "Inclusive and Well-rounded Education for All"

AGENDA

MORNING:

8:00 - 8:30 am- Coffee and chat in MVRHS PAC lobby 

8:30 - 9:00 am- Superintendent's introduction to the day 

9:00 - 11:30 am-  Presentation from Keynote Speakers (see Bios below)

AFTERNOON:

11:30-12:00 pm- Lunch served at MVRHS Cafeteria to all MVYPS educators

12:00 - 3:00 pm- Staff are required to choose from MVYPS sessions listed below, unless directed to sessions by administrators. Please note that certain session are required of specific groups of teachers as follows.

AFTERNOON SESSIONS

The afternoon is split into two sessions: Session 1 (12:00 - 1:30 pm) and Session 2 (1:30 - 3:00 pm)*.

MVYPS teaching staff are required to choose from the following sessions that are designed to support professional development in one or more of MVYPS' focus areas for 2023-2024. 

Note: One of the afternoon choices has to be either the first or second session with Paige Tobin, Esq.

MVYPS will not offer Cape Cod Collaborative PD options this year.  

*MVYPS Preschool teachers and Co-teachers will be required to participate in a full afternoon session that will run the full three hours. They are not required to attend a Paige Tobin, Esq. session.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Early Education: Continued Work Towards Establishing Consistent Programming

Acknowledging Indigenous People's Day

Purpose: Join the co-chairs of the MV Diversity Coalition Education Committee as they share the video, "HONORING THE NATIVE PEOPLE OF NOEPE." Then, explore the true history of the holiday through a discussion with Jocelyn Coleman Walton and Lisa Pimentel.

Anxiety in the Classroom: Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Teachers to use in Recognizing and Responding to Students -THIS SESSION IS FULL

Purpose: Join Ryan Kolodziejczak ("Ryan Kolo"), anxiety coach and owner of Road to Limitless Living, LLC., as he walks educators through the signs and symptoms of anxiety that commonly present in the classroom. Ryan will provide tips and tricks that educators can use in recognizing and responding to these symptoms, as well as strategies that educators can use in developing classroom spaces and lessons that consider potential anxiety traps.

Ryan is a trained anxiety coach who worked at the Pediatric Anxiety Research Center (PARC) at the Bradley Hospital in East Providence, RI. At PARC, Ryan used exposure and responsive prevention therapy with children and adolescents through intensive outpatient treatment.  He has worked at Camp Ruggles in Chapachet, RI for over 12 years. Camp Ruggles is the only summer camp in RI for children clinically diagnosed with emotional and behavioral disorders. Currently, through his private coaching practice, Ryan works with youth who are experiencing anxiety and OCD, and their families. He also partners with MVYPS to provide anxiety coaching to students as a part of MTSS programming.

Exploring Everyday Speech: SEL Curriculum for K-12 

Purpose: Everyday Speech's SEL curriculum and platform has been requested by MVYPS elementary teachers and specialists for the past couple of years, and now they have a 9-12 curriculum. In this session MVYPS educators in grades K-12 will explore Everyday Speech's SEL curriculum through an onboarding session with Jodi Wolinsky from Everyday Speech. Educators will also have an opportunity to engage in the curriculum, set up their personal account, and explore the use of lessons with students. MVYPS has a pilot license for Everyday Speech's SEL Curriculum, and its available to ALL K-12 teachers and service professionals. 

NOTE: Everyday Speech is not intended to replace any SEL curriculum that is currently being used within MVYPS K-12 schools. Its lessons and curriculum, however, have the chance to support educators in integrating additional resources into an MTSS model.
