Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights statute prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability. It specifically prohibits discrimination against students with disabilities and guarantees them a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).
In order for a student to be eligible under Section 504: the student must have a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one or more major life activities.
