The MVHS Library has a LOT of reading material for you. It might be a book you need for a classroom assignment, or it may be something to read for your own interest! Use Destiny--our online catalog program--to find what you need.
Use Destiny Discover to search for books in the MVHS Library! For more search features, try a "Power" search in Destiny Back Office (Classic View).
Our largest section has 1000s of titles! Fiction books are made-up stories (not factually true), but they often feel very real or are based on things that really happened. They include novels (long stories that take a while to read) and short story collections (those you can usually finish in few minutes). Fiction books are found on the low shelves in the middle of the library, organized by the author's last name.
The nonfiction section is for books that are NOT made-up stories. They deal with the facts of history, science, ideas, and specialized topics. Every topic has its own number! For instance, 921 = biography and 741.5 = graphic novels. To find these books, look on the tall shelves along wall. Search for the number first and then bo by author's last name.
Reference books are in their own section with REF on the spine. These can't be checked out, but they are always in the library for anyone to refer to, or look at and use. Before the world of online research and Wikipedia, this was where most research happened. We still have some pretty cool books in this collection! Look for full-color books on art history, the complete Calvin & Hobbes collection, Gray's Anatomy (the actual textbook for doctors), the Oxford English Dictionary, and more.
We have a growing collection of books in three of the most commonly spoken languages at MVHS: Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian. Remember, reading in your first language helps you become a better reader and writer in ALL the languages you speak! Look for SP (Spanish), RU (Russian), and UKR (Ukrainian) over by the Career Center doors.
