Classroom Number: 8
Classroom Color: Purple
Classroom Mascot: Puppy
Please do not send glass containers or bottles with your children. Glass is dangerous if it happens to fall and break. MUSD is asking all families to follow this expectation to help ensure the safety on school campuses.
I have also noticed that many water bottles are not labeled with. your child's name and room number. Please make sure ALL containers, water bottles, lunch boxes are labeled with your child's name and room number. This will help us identify the many similar water bottles on school campus. The kinder classes are starting full day schedule this week which means a lot more kids on the Kindergarten playground during the lunch and afternoon recess. Additionally, please make sure water bottles closes all the way to prevent spills and from germs getting on the mouth piece of the bottle.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping our children safe and healthy this school year.
Reminders and Information:
Happy first day of Kindergarten!
Here are a few reminders and some information to get you settled into this new school year at Spangler.
1) Students should arrive between 8:30- 8:45am every day. There is no safety patrol prior to 8:30 am and we ask that if you arrive earlier that you wait with your child at the kindergarten drop off area until supervision is available. By following this expectation we can ensure the safety of all our kids on campus. If you arrive late, the gate will be closed and we ask that you walk your child to the school office for a tardy slip. Your child will then be taken to the classroom.
2) Breakfast/ Lunch: You may bring your child at 8:15 am for breakfast daily and drop off at the entrance by the cafeteria. Breakfast is served from 8:15am - 8:30am on school days. Students may have second-chance breakfast at their first recess only if they did not eat breakfast during the before school time. Lunch for kindergarten is at 11am on all school days. Students may bring their lunch from home in a lunch box (with their name clearly labeled) or have "school" lunch. Please make sure your child knows which choice they will having each morning. Also, if your child is vegetarian- make sure they are aware. You may also send me an email letting me know.
3) Students should be in school uniform daily. Navy blue or Khaki only for bottoms (or dresses); Navy blue, Burgundy (not red), green and white are for tops. Shoes MUST be closed- toed and heeled for safety. Crocs are NOT closed-heeled and not not appropriate for running/ participating is school activities. Students need to be able to button, zip, belt their clothing independently. Please practice this at home and encourage them to dress themselves.
4) Pick-Up Procedures: If you are walking to pick up your student, please park on the street (NOT in staff parking) and wait patiently in line for your child to be dismissed to you. You may also stay in your car at the drive through pick up area and we will bring your child to your car. We want to make sure your child is being sent home with parent/guardian or persons listed on their Emergency Release list. If your child attends an After School Program (ATB, RAS, or any of the off-campus programs) please make sure you list the organization on the Emergency List in Aeries. (If you are still having difficulty with access in Aeries, please contact the school office for help) If you are running late, please call the school office to inform us.
5) All students need to bring daily:
STANDARD (full-size) BACKPACK (to hold a 11X18 folder) with their NAME WRITTEN ON THE BACK- Strap Side, not visible from front for safety
WATER BOTTLE labeled with their Name and Room Number "8", please make sure your child can open/close on their own without leaking. Water fountains are NOT available.
LUNCH BAG with their name clearly labeled if they are planning on bringing their own snack/ lunch to school.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES (top/bottom/underwear/ socks) inside a ZIPLOC to keep in their backpack for emergencies/ accidents.
Please LABEL ALL BELONGINGS. Many backpacks, lunch boxes, sweaters, etc. look alike. It is much easier to return lost items to students if their name is written on their belongings.
6) R.E.D. (Read Every Day) Folders: Students will be checking out books from our classroom library on a weekly basis. There is an optional Book Bag Activity sheet to complete for the book you read. Students completing activity will earn a Spartan bucks (which are traded into prizes).
7) Our Classroom Website: This is a great resource for Kindergarten Families. There is a link to the website on the list of important links on the Parent Square App. If you have questions regarding school procedures, academic expectations, programs used in Spangler Kindergarten, Resources for Families, how birthdays are celebrated in Room 8, and information about activities in and near our community, this is a great place to start.
I am looking forward to working with your families this school year in Kindergarten. Please do not hesitate to send me a message with any questions or concern.
