We want to encourage all students to participate in Socratic Seminars when they are done in class. All students have a voice and need to be heard. We have talked with many students during conferences and want all to participate in the dialogue process. Please, talk about socratic seminar with your child and give them encouragement to partake in getting out of their comfort zone of not participating.
Our next socratic seminar will take place this Friday, November 3rd and the students will discuss the poem One Voice, also by Shel Silverstein .They have been assigned the poem today, October 30th. They will be looking at its meaning, and how it connects to their own lives and the rest of the world.
The 6th grade teacher team was fortunate enough to go to a training on Socratic Seminars! We learned so much two days and are so excited to do them in our classes! We have done 2 different discussions so far and the kids love them! It has given teachers and students such amazing insight into each others opinions and thoughts. We are so excited to use this same process with our Social Studies Simulations we will be starting very soon!
