The first step to course registration is teachers making placement recommendations in PowerSchool. All recommendations will be available to see in PowerSchool on February 14th.
If you find yourself in a situation where you disagree with a teacher's recommendation, we encourage you to take the following steps:
Initiate a Conversation:
Reach out directly to your teacher to discuss your concerns and share your goals or reasons for considering a different class. Your teacher will be able to provide more information about their recommendation based on your abilities, your performance, and their knowledge of the classes in their department.
Possible Outcomes:
Your teacher may maintain their original recommendation, as they believe it is the best fit for your success. It’s important to carefully reconsider their perspective before making a final decision. If you still wish to proceed with the override process, it will involve both you and your caregiver completing override request forms.
Your teacher may adjust their recommendation based on the conversation and additional insights.
Your teacher may provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities over a set period, with a potential reevaluation at the end of the term.
Communicate with Your School Counselor:
Regardless of the outcome, inform your school counselor about the conversation and its result. We want to ensure that your course selection aligns with your goals and abilities.
Remember, your teachers are here to guide you based on their expertise. Please don't hesitate to engage in open and respectful conversations about your academic path. Your success is our priority, and we trust that you and your teachers will make the best decisions for your educational journey.
Override Process
If the final decision is to go through the override process, please click here for the Override Request Form. Students complete the first form and then the caregiver approval form will be sent out. Please be sure to have the conversation with your teacher prior to filling out the Override Request Form.
Then, you'll enter your course requests into PowerSchool. For instructions on how to enter course requests, click here. Please enter your requests by Monday, March 3, 2025.
Later this spring, you'll meet individually with your counselor to discuss future plans and confirm your course requests for next year.
After schedules are released in June, you will have time to make sure everything is correct and request any changes before you leave for the summer.
