Nathan Bedford Forrest Signature

MS12-17 consists of a railroad bond for the Selma, Marion, and Memphis Railroad Company signed by Nathan Bedford Forrest on September 1, 1869. The collection also includes a 5"x7" portrait imprint of Forrest in a Confederate uniform.

An etching of Confederate General Nathaniel Bedford Forrest (1821-77) with caption "engd by H.B. Hal & Sons New York." Forrest was a cavalry commander who operated in the Jackson Purchase region and Western Tennessee throughout the Civil War. His men were accused of horrific war crimes at the Battle of Fort Pillow on April 12, 1864 just outside Memphis. Shortly after the war ended he became a prominent leader in the Ku Klux Klan, a White supremacist terrorist organization.

United Daughters of the Confederacy-Calloway County

MS86-03 includes scrapbooks, photograph albums, programs, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and ephemera associated with the local branch of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Winfield Scott, also known as "Old Fuss and Feathers," was a hero of the Mexican-American War and Commanding General of the United States Army until his dismissal in 1861. Scott disagreed with other war advisors who insisted the war would be over quickly, and suggested the implementation of the "Anaconda Plan" to encircle and slowly choke out the Confederacy.

A few of "Morgan's Men" who served under John Hunt Morgan during his raid across the Midwest, taken at a POW Camp. The back of the photo lists the names of the men and some additional information about them.

Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina Howell Davis. Jefferson Davis was the first and only president of the Confederate States of America.

City of Murray and Calloway County Photograph Collection

MS12-01 consists of original photographs and copies of photographs taken in Murray and Calloway County, Kentucky from the 1880s to the 1980s. The collection contains images of one room county schoolhouses, prominent families, significant events, and historic buildings. Included are negatives and handwritten notes from researchers and publishers.

Pictured is Charles Wesley Jetton, who was a captain in the Confederate Army. Capt. Jetton fought at several important battles, including Shiloh, Vicksburg, and with Gen. John Hood in Nashville. He survived the war and later died in Murray in 1913.

Sarah Bell Waller Photograph

Sarah Bell Waller was married to attorney Henry Waller in Maysville, Kentucky. She encouraged donations from all around the world for prisoners of war, providing them with necessities such as clothing and shoes. The collection includes a photograph of Waller during the Civil War.
