Civil War

The American Civil War affected much of the Jackson Purchase region, which was the scene of both pitched battles and low-level skirmishes through most of the conflict. The Purchase Area also furnished the combatants with nearly 6,000 soldiers, the vast majority of whom fought for the Confederacy. Within Pogue Library's Special Collections are a number of unique items relating to the Civil War, and, more particularly, its impact on the region, such as letters, photographs, and other miscellaneous holdings.
