Henry Lee Jones received a letter from his sister Mary Ann Lowry dated March 30, 1843 discussing current events, including an Indian attack on some White settlers and "a great religious influence prevailing now every where through out the country."

Letter to Capt. William Felt dated October 5th, 1812. Written during the early days of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the letter suggests that a new industrial machine would produce fine thread for textiles using "pulleys, which will be cheaper than wheels," greatly increasing productivity. The writer was also interested in acquiring steam engines.
