Boyd Family Papers
The first members of the Boyd family migrated to Kentucky's Jackson Purchase Area from Nashville in 1826 and patriarch Linn Boyd (1800-59) became an influential state politician. MS99-03 includes the family's correspondence, land deeds, receipts and other financial agreements and legal documents from 1814 to 1910. Of note are transcripts of letters relating to the early history of the Jackson Purchase and Paducah from 1812 to 1882, a Boyd family history, and photographic prints of family members.
This cipher and key is one of the more curious items in the Boyd collection. There is no explanation why someone sent a coded message that translates to "Nathan H. Ded Man."
