Building a classroom community is a great tool to use when managing a classroom. Within this community, students build relationships with one another, build social skills, and have a role in the classroom. A classroom community also reinforces the idea of respect between teachers and students and trust among one another. When a classroom community is built students cheer each other on and celebrate accomplishments.
Team building is key in creating a classroom community. This allows students to get to know one another and sets them up for success when working in groups and collaborating with one another.
When creating classroom rules, teacher tend to take control. Instead allow students to create the classroom rules on the first day of school. This allows students to take ownership and they are able to work together.
Setting short and long-term goals helps keep students motivated and gives them something to work for. They are able to work together to meet the goal which further strengthen relationships between classmates.
