Country Research
After receiving your country you will begin to conduct research about your country’s history and role within the global sphere in order to gain a better understanding of how it will approach issues raised throughout the conference and committees, just like it would in the United Nations.
When learning about your country and creating its profile you should be focusing on areas, such as:
Economy
Political structure
Social structure
Culture
Physical geography
Also, be sure to search the background information of the topic(s) that are being discussed, including the current status of these topics, past actions your country has taken when approaching topics that will be brought up during the conference, and the policy your country currently upholds.
How to Conduct Research:
Start with a general search of your country from trustworthy sources
Often academic databases (.edu, .ac, .gov) are more credible sources
Be sure to search government websites since in Model UN you are going to be acting as a representative of that Country
Use resources already laid out for you from the website associated with Model UN
These websites often have background guides on your committee and topic, country profiles, and permanent missions expressing your country’s and representative’s position.
