Project Synopsis and Activity
This assignment acts as an outline for a digital citizenship project of which will showcase a digital citizenship project and activity which could/can be conducted in a classroom setting. The project itself highlights different themes presented and learned throughout ED-5131: Digital Citizenship in a Global Setting, and acts as a collaborative assessment of different elements and themes of the course. The focus of the created unit will have students develop real life skills and abilities related to elements connected to digital citizenship and technology related skills. Students will use both online virtual elements and in-class collaboration to extend their learning in direct relation to digital citizenship competencies. The overall goal of the project will focus on digital citizenship elements of privacy, security, safety, etiquette (netiquette) and literacy. The project itself will follow Nova Scotia Grade Eight English Language Arts curriculum outcomes for guidance (noted below).
Activity
Students will begin by interfacing with an online program which focuses on three pillars and elements of digital citizenship acknowledged in the concept map (privacy, safety & security, etiquette & literacy). The program provides four small interactive games, averaging ten-fifteen minutes, in which students learn engaging digital citizenship skills. After the completion of the four interactive games, students will have the opportunity to reflect and respond to the tasks performed within the games. Next, students will engage in literary responses, reviewing and summarizing their activities. Finally students will engage in a think-pair-share summarizing activity to collaborate and expand the independent activity and emphasizes a shared understanding of the digital citizenship activities.
Curriculum Outcomes
1) Learners will plan oral, written, and visual personal and critical responses, in relation to audience and purpose.
2) Learners will create oral, written, and visual communication forms for a range of audiences and purposes.
3) Learners will implement speaking and writing strategies for effective communication in relation to audience and purpose.
4) Learners will comprehend a range of communication forms using listening strategies, reading strategies, and viewing strategies.
