Click here and log into your MUHS Chrome account, then click on the waffle (AKA the nine-dot square in the top right corner of your Google screen). Then click the Classroom icon and find English 9 - Period # that corresponds to when you're in my class. If you don't have your period's classroom code, email me at hdavis@muhs.com with your name and your class period. Out of privacy and safety concern, I do not publicly post classroom codes. Please contact me directly if you need a code.
Below you can find schedules by quarter: just click the correct yellow box to view!
This page has our class calendars and the syllabus for the 2025-2026 school year. The class calendars are subject to change based on individual class periods' needs, but we will stick to these basic schedules.
If you are struggling with any English content (for example, if an assignment's description is confusing or you missed something from class or you have an unexplained zero for a grade), reach out to me by email and explain exactly what you need help on. I'll reply within 24 hours.
Yes, I do! I will take any work from the current quarter until the last Monday of that quarter, and I do not take off points for late assignments. However, when you turn in an assignment late, it is not my priority for grading. I grade assignments turned in on time first, then late work. After the quarter break, I will NOT accept any work from the previous quarter. I maintain this deadline strictly and will not stray from it.
Quarter Deadlines for this year:
Quarter 1: Monday, October 7
Quarter 2: Monday, December 16
Quarter 3: Monday, March 10
Quarter 4: Monday, May 19
If there is a percentage grade for an assignment in PowerSchool (ex. 90%, 44%, 0%), then yes, I have graded it. If there is not a percentage, meaning your grade looks like "-/10" I have NOT graded it yet. That means we either just finished the assignment or we haven't even started it in class yet. I will get to grading as soon as I can, but I am a busy teacher with a full life, so please be patient.
If you received an F on your assignment, ask yourself the following questions first BEFORE coming to me:
Did I actually turn in the assignment, or is it still in my backpack?
Was I in class the day we did this assignment?
Did I thoroughly read all of the instructions before completing the assignment?
Did I answer all of the questions and/or participate fully in the activity?
Did I ask Ms. Davis specific questions when I got stuck?
Did I read the rubric for the assignment or ask Ms. Davis what the assignment would be graded for?
If you answered "no" to one or more of the questions, then you earned your F. If you answered "yes" to ALL of these questions, come talk to me to discuss your grade in further detail.

All of these texts have been approved by our district and have been taught at Mingus Union High School recently. Though they deal with more mature topics, like abuse, poverty, censorship, violence, etc, they are age-appropriate and worth teaching. Our anchor texts are:
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Additionally, we would like to show the following movies to enhance our students’ learning; however, the Motion Picture Association of America has deemed these films inappropriate for anyone under the age of 13. District procedures require us to notify you of this type of film use in our classrooms.
Romeo + Juliet (1996), starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
Romeo and Juliet (2013), starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth
The Lost Boys of Sudan (2003)
If you would like to obtain additional information on these texts, we recommend using Common Sense Media’s website and the International Movie Database website to learn more. If additional questions exist, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s English teacher; we welcome your communication and your insight into what takes place in our classrooms.
