Dual Enrollment (DE) English is a college-level course where the main emphasis is writing. Students who sign up for the class should expect to write regularly and without complaint. Students will compose five essays and will be accountable for readings. While this course provides students the opportunity to improve their skills; it also demands reasonable writing competence from students, and aims to improve their confidence and capability. In the fall semester, students will take English 101, and in the spring semester, they will take English 102. These classes earn them both high school credit and college credit through Yavapai College.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is the federal law concerning sharing information about college students. Essentially, for Dual Enrollment Mingus/Yavapai students, it means the college personnel (me, Ms. Davis) can no longer talk to the parents about their high school student without the student present: this includes electronic correspondence.Â
So parents, if you have questions or concerns, please visit with your student, as reaching out to me directly about grades, assignments, etc. will not result in any disclosure of information. If your student is present and consenting for a conversation between us, I will be able to address any of your questions/concerns.
