Our marching band is a pillar of Muhlenberg High School. Comprised of students from the high school band as well as eighth and ninth grade students from the middle school band, we represent the Muhlenberg Music Department as well as the school and community in a variety of ways. The marching band may be one of the most energetic ensembles in the high school. The goal of the directors is to educate those students involved by helping them to mature skills in team building, discipline, musical technique, leadership, and to help them have an experience unlike any other in the high school. Involvement in a strong band program will provide all of those involved a higher quality experience that will remain in their minds for the rest of their lives.
Starting as early as April, the marching band prepares a pregame/halftime show to wow spectators. From the first days, the directors work with the student leaders to choose material for the show, arrange music and drill for the production, devise effective exercises, and facilitate rehearsals and performances for the fall. The show is focused on first educating the students on musical technique, creative expression, and collaborative artistry, as well as entertaining a crowd of sports fans and music supporters alike. The production is never truly complete, as the band continues to refine their material as the season matures. However, in efforts to invigorate the football team as well as the crowd, the band is always learning new and exciting pep music. Along with the Friday night games and performances, the marching band occasionally takes part in local parades and the occasional marching band exhibition show. In many ways, a quality marching program is a near year-round endeavor.
