Digital Resources are websites (online resources) and applications (e.g., for iPads) used to help learners achieve a learning goal. If any of the digital resources being used by students require student accounts, and/or a student log in, and/or share any personally identifiable information of the students, current legislation requires that the digital resource be compliant with California Student Data Privacy regulations (Assembly Bill 1584). Additionally, if any digital resource tool for teachers requires the teacher to enter personally identifiable information of the students (e.g. online grade book), this legislation also applies.
A number of our current digital resources (e.g., DORA, Hapara, PLTW, etc.) have already gone through this vetting process. A current list of District-approved Digital Resources is available at this LINK. More digital resources will be added to this list as soon as the required paperwork is completed and uploaded to this site.
So, if you plan to use a digital resource with your students, or a teacher productivity tool that contains student data, you must complete the required Digital Resource Request Form BEFORE you implement its use in your classroom. In other words, ASK BEFORE YOU APP!!
