The Montgomery Township School District is committed to providing a solid, standards-based foundation for its students in the area of mathematics. Because math skills are sequential, it is essential that prerequisite skills be mastered before complex courses are taken. The prerequisites are firmly based on the proficiency a student demonstrates over the entire year of work in mathematics preceding each course.
All 8th grade students are placed into their 9th grade math courses based on the prerequisites outlined in the 2026-2027 MHS Program of Studies.
Can my student waive into an honors math course next year?
If a student’s projected final grade is within 3 points of the prerequisite grade requirement at the end of Marking Period 3, they are eligible to complete the waiver for consideration into an Honors course.
Algebra 8 students with a projected final grade of 92%-94.4% at the conclusion of Marking Period 3 are eligible to complete the waiver for consideration into Honors Geometry
Geometry 8 students with a projected final grade of 82%-84.4% at the conclusion of Marking Period 3 are eligible to complete the waiver for consideration into Honors Algebra II.
The waiver form will be sent to eligible students by their math teacher in the spring and reviewed by the MHS Math Supervisor, Mrs. Riddell.
