I have been teaching in Montgomery for twenty-eight years, mostly in 4th grade. More recently, I taught for two years in 3rd grade, and now I am excited to be able to teach in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms as an academic support teacher, supporting students in math and reading.
Third grade was my favorite year as a student. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Shelton, had zebra-striped cushions in the back of her room where I loved to read. She taught us to sing "You're a Grand Old Flag" and encouraged us to play outside a lot. She fostered my love for reading, and it was in third grade when I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
I went to Trenton State College, now The College of New Jersey, for Elementary Education and English. I completed my Masters degree in Reading, earned a Reading Specialist certificate and a Supervisor's certificate, all from TCNJ. I live in Ewing, close to the college.
Outside of school, I am part of the Montgomery Township Education Association where I enjoy getting to know teachers from other buildings. I am active in my church in several ways, but my favorite is holding babies in the nursery. I enjoy going for a walk or run, especially along the canal or through the woods. I played softball for a rec team (sometimes first base, sometimes catcher, and often bench-warmer!) and I love volleyball, golf, and tennis. In May, I love being part of Music from the Heart, a musical theater event put on by MTSD staff to raise money for scholarships for seniors. I work backstage, and it's neat to watch the show unfold! I love spending time with my parents, who live locally, and my sister, who lives in California. It is a treat to visit her over the summer.
This summer, my sister, brother-in-law, my parents, and I vacationed in Lake Tahoe. What a beautiful place!!! We enjoyed the scenery, kayaking, short hikes, and visiting with old friends.
A few years ago, I adopted a puppy just before school started. Her name is Violet! She is 49% loveable and 51% crazy! :)
Teaching is the best! I get to spend all day with students as we learn together! I am looking forward to when we can all be together in our classroom.
This is me in third grade.
It was my favorite year in school,
and the year I knew
I wanted to be a teacher!
Meet Violet!
