We follow a Workshop Model in writing.

This consists of a short 7-10 minute mini lesson, a workshop session (where students are encouraged to try the skill/ strategy that was just taught), and small group or individual student conferences, where the teachers meet with students to discuss and collaborate on student writing.

Our Fourth Grade Units include:

• • Unit 1: The Arc of Story- Writing Realistic Fiction Pieces

  • Unit 2: Boxes and Bullets- Personal and Persuasive Essays

  • Unit 3: The Literary Essay- Writing About Fiction

  • Unit 4: Bringing History to Life- Informational

We have 8 Chromebooks in our classroom, as well as the hallway's shared Chromebook cart, for students to utilize during Writer's Workshop.

Students will have the chance to type and/ or publish many of their final pieces this year and we will keep their published pieces in a Classroom Binder, so other students can read and be inspired by their writing.

At the end of each unit we will do a writing celebration.
