In our first counseling lesson of the year, 2nd graders reconnected with Ms. Casisa and reviewed the role of the school counselor through the story Mrs. Joyce Gives the Best High-Fives. For students new to Orchard Hill, this served as a warm introduction to school counseling! Students also learned how to use the new counselor mailbox to leave notes when they want to chat. To wrap up, each class took a special trip to visit Ms. Casisa’s new office and played a quick game of "I-Spy" to find three hidden items!
In our October counseling lesson, 2nd graders explored the concept of empathy and learned what it truly means to "walk in someone else's shoes." We read the story How Do I Stand in Your Shoes? to see empathy in action. Afterward, students put their skills to work in a group activity, reading different scenarios to figure out how someone was feeling and brainstorm thoughtful ways to help them out. Students concluded the lesson by completing and coloring a worksheet with a plan on how they will show empathy to others.
