212 Highlights...
In Reading we've focused on fiction texts, finding characters and stories that let us practice reading accurately, fluently, comprehending the text, and broadening our vocabulary. We'll soon switch to focusing on nonfiction texts.
In Writing we've been solidifying our understanding of the rules of complete sentence writing that include capitals and ending punctuation. Students are crafting narratives sentence by sentence, sometimes adding dialogue, including action and description. They hope to entertain their readers. They'll also help to edit one another's writing looking with "editing eyes" to correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation mistakes.
In Math we've shifted from addition and subtraction to multiplication. We've learned ways to show our understanding of groupings like using skip counting, repeated addition, and loops and groups. We'll build upon this foundation as the year progresses.
In Science students have looked at forecasts and data on the Weather Underground site. They've noticed patterns and trends in temperatures, precipitation, and wind speeds. Students became Storm Spotters as they learned about Cumulus, Cumulonimbus, Stratus, and Stratonimbus clouds. We'll soon be learning about the four climate types.
In Social Studies we're learning about the Lenape before our trip to Waterloo Village. Comparing our modern lives to the indigenous ways of life hundreds of years ago has engaged all our learners. Looking at food- hunting/gathering, clothing, jobs, shelter, and medicine are all the subtopics we'll learn about.
