Musicianship Test Information

Musicianship Testing Overview

Musicianship Testing is the way that we ensure we are regularly monitoring students' individual development. In September, students choose a graphic organizer in one of three tiered difficulty levels. This graphic organizer lists benchmarks in rhythm, scale knowledge, musical terms and solo/ensemble development. When a student has demonstrated proficiency on these benchmarks, they receive an initial beside the benchmark on their graphic organizer. Progress expectations for each trimester are listed on the weekly announcement slideshow and due dates in Canvas reflect appropriate progress.

Students may personalize this experience in a number of ways. Thay may choose to test at a level higher than their grade level or test skills at any time before the due date. They may also choose to test skills live, submit them digitally via Canvas from school or home or use a combination of testing techniques (most common).

Students may retest/resubmit any skill until they demonstrate proficiency. The only grade included from Musicianship Testing is a progress grade. "Skill" on individual benchmarks will not be graded as our focus is on growth.

Extra copies of the graphic organizer, rhythm sheet and Italian musical terms are available in each band room and on Canvas. If you ever have any trouble accessing these resources, please email Mr. Feigles.
