Please beware of any deals online that look too good to be true. Often, these instruments will be challenging for students to produce a sound, will not play in tune, and are unable to be repaired when they break. An instrument that comes with white gloves, should be a red flag.
If you are looking to purchase a used instrument, please make sure it has been checked out by a repair shop and they have confirmed it is in good working condition. reverb.com can be a great source for good quality used instruments.
In addition to renting your instrument, students are encouraged to purchase an instrument care kit. This will include valve oil or slide cream, tuning slide grease and a cleaning snake.
We will be learning how to properly maintain our instruments.
All woodwind students will need to purchase a cleaning cloth for their instrument. Oboes, clarinets and saxophones should always have at least three good reeds to use. A box of reeds (10) will last most students the entire school year.
I recommend Vandoren or Juno brand reeds for clarinets and saxes. Please check with me before ordering any reeds online.
Percussion students will start with a Bell Kit in their 5th grade year. This kit includes a set of bells, drum practice pad, sticks and mallets.
Percussion students are also required to purchase a stick bag.
