vLab is a virtual computer environment you access from the Internet. It allows you to work with applications that you don’t have on your own computer.
We call the vLab computer a “Remote” computer. Your own computer is called the “Local” computer.
It is possible to move files between these computers and this is how you can complete assignments as if you were in a computer lab at our MRU campus.
1. Open an internet browser.
2. Enter this link in your browser: https://mru.apporto.com
3. Click Log in.
(Your first login will be slow as the system will create your profile)
4. Enter your MRU username and password.
5. Click Launch on the software you're wanting to use in the vLab.
The vLab desktop will launch in a new tab on your web browser and will automatically start the software you'd selected.
NOTE: If you lose your network connection or refresh your vLab page you may have to login again. Unsaved work will have to be redone
Well done! You now know how to login to the MRU vLab environment.
NOTE: Before logging out of the vLab (remote), please make sure you have saved your work - move any large files back to your Google Drive folder or download your files to your computer (local).
1. Click the Windows Start icon on the vLab desktop.
2. Click the power icon.
3. Click Disconnect.
4. Close the tab.
5. Click your username@mtroyal.ca and click Logout.
Great! You now know how to log out of the MRU vLab environment.
Use the Cloud Mounter to connect your Google Drive for easy file management.
Use the Download/Upload file utility to move files between your local desktop and the vLab desktop.
Make regular backups to avoid losing your work.
1. Double click the Cloud Mounter icon.
2. Select Google Drive.
3. Click Connect Now.
4. Enter your full MRU email address.
5. Enter your MRU password.
5a. If you have Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) turned on then complete that extra step before proceeding.
6. Click Allow.
7. Click Allow.
Successful connection.
Your Google Drive now displays as Gdrive (G:) on the vLab.
The next time you log in to the vLab, your Google Drive will automatically connect.
Congratulations! Your Google Drive is connected to the vLab.
1. Click the File Upload icon.
2. Select Destination Folder and Click Upload
3. Select the file and click Open.
4. Click Close
5. Click Close
The file is now ready to use on the vLab.
Nice work! You have successfully uploaded a file to the vLab.
1. Click File Download.
2. Select the file and click Download.
3. Select the location and click Save.
4. Click Close
The file is now downloaded from the vLab to your device.
Great! You have successfully downloaded a file from the vLab to your device.
1. Click Share Screen.
You now choose the level of access you want to grant the user you are sharing your screen with:
2a. Select View only and click Copy Link.
Anyone with the link can connect to your vLab session and view your vLab desktop, but cannot access or control the desktop or apps.
2b. Select View and draw and click Copy Link.
Anyone with the link can connect to your vLab session and make annotations (draw) on your vLab desktop by clicking and dragging.
2c. Select Full control and click Copy Link.
Anyone with the link can connect to your vLab session and take over your vLab desktop.
3. Paste the copied link and send it to the user you'd like to share your screen with.
4. Click Stop Sharing at anytime to end screen sharing.
Anyone with the link who was connected to your vLab session with be disconnected.
