Best Practices

Follow these tips to get the best experience out of the vLab.

Using a high bandwidth, low latency network connection is the most important thing you can do to ensure optimal performance using the vLab

Cabled connections are recommended for graphics-intensive apps like Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS pro, etc

Using a smartphone as a hotspot is NOT recommended

When using the Cloud Mounter to access files from Google Drive, copy large files to your virtual desktop in the vLab (for example, by dragging files onto the desktop) before working with them.

It is recommended that the vLab only be used for temporary storage and that all files be saved to your Google Drive.

If you step away from your virtual desktop for some time, your session will become inactive. After 30 minutes of inactivity the session will be ended. A warning message will show 2 minutes before ending the session. Save your work to avoid data loss.

Save your work frequently if your network connection is not reliable - and be sure to save to the Desktop or Documents so files are persisted even if the session is disconnected due to a poor network.

If your internet connection is lost, a "SESSION DISCONNECTED" message displays. Click the “Reconnect” button to attempt to reconnect to the vLab server.
