The classroom should be a safe and supportive place where students feel as though they belong and can be successful. Every student brings their individuality into the classroom and the uniqueness of each child will contribute to the learning community. I aspire to create an inclusive learning environment where learners are provided with opportunities to seek their passions.
I plan to create lessons with multiple entry points that incorporate formative assessment in order to put the students needs before the learning tasks. Therefore, formative assessment will guide my instruction and the direction of learning. I seek to design rich tasks for students to engage with knowledge and skill to solve authentic problems to foster deep understanding.
I aspire to be viewed as a partner in the learning process rather than the sole knowledge holder, therefore, I will use inquiry-based techniques in my classroom that will teach to the whole child. I aspire for these methods to guide learners to discover and make self discoveries. I intend to inspire my students and promote a sense of wonder and joy to the learning process. I vow teach from a place of curiosity, hope, empathy, and honesty.
Assessment should be an ongoing process that is focused on strengths and areas of improvement. Students should be involved in the process to develop criteria for success and set smart goals to focus their growth. I plan to use formative assessment methods to clearly communicate learning targets to students.
I have committed myself to being a life-long learner within the teaching vocation; continuously growing and adapting to ensure students receive a rich and meaningful learning experience. I will be accountable for my students, parents, administration, and the greater community.
